Welcome to the 2019 Summer Reading Program!

This year’s theme for youth is A UNIVERSE OF STORIES!

Please come in and register for the ‘A UNIVERSE OF STORIES’ Summer Reading Program as a whole STARTING JUNE 5th,  then register for each individual event that you would like to attend.  HOVER AND HIT THE LINKS IN RED.

‘A UNIVERSE OF STORIES’ t/ween registration is open to ATKINSON youth entering grade 6 to age 19 (as of Fall 2019).  The youth program overall registration is for kids entering kindergarten through grade 5.  *Kids entering grade 5 register for the youth program, but may also register & attend any events listed for their age group in the t/ween program.

*EVERY MONDAY ‘Summer  Stitch for Tots! (Grades 5 & Up) 3:00-4:30 pm
Learn some knitting or crocheting stitches. We will help you.  Stitch a bunny from a square!

WED, June 19- SECRET WORLD OF BUBBLES with Keith Michael Johnson “Universe of Stories” Kickoff  (All Ages) 6:30 – 7:30 pm @ Atkinson Academy

Bring supper in a bag and enjoy our dessert while we discuss ‘Zita the SpaceGirl’

Explore, build, and create with our STEM building supplies.

Use Makerbot 3D printers to make a small 3D object in multiple colors!

WED, June 26 – Look Up (Grades 1-6) 6:30 – 7:30 pm
Join us for an interactive game that will challenge and entertain! Atkinson Ambassador Girl Scouts will lead this fun, informative, session to highlight the importance of reducing screen time while sharing fun, screen-free alternatives.

Flying saucer construction, stories, and out of this world antics!

MON, July 1 – OUTTA THIS WORLD ‘Gaming Galaxy’ (Ages 9 & up) 6:00 – 7:30 pm
Come for all or part of the time allotted for a galaxy of gaming choices!

WED, July 3- STEM Engineering Lab (All Ages) 3:30- 5:30 pm
Explore, build, and create with out STEM building supplies!

MON, July 8- A Universe of Aliens! (Grades K-5) 6:30-7:30 pm
Learn about U.F.O.s , hear a few spooky alien tales and jokes, make some alien slime, and write a letter to a friendly alien!

TUE, July 9- OUTTA THIS WORLD T/ween Book Discussion (Register K-5) 6:30- 7:30 pm
Join us for ‘Life as We Knew It’ and candy and conversation that is outta this world!

WED, July 10- Universally Awesome CONCERT with AARON JONES (All Ages, Especially Littles) 6:00- 7:00 pm

Learn arranging techniques and floral design with the Atkinson Garden Club. Today’s workshop is ‘miniature’ design using small containers and petite flowers.

Build your paper rocket, test it, and hear a story or two!

A mystery to solve! An interactive story where tweens will learn about astronauts and life in space!

TUE, July 16th- Forensics Crime Analysis (Ages 13-17) 7:30-9:00pm
Join us for a hands-on, after hours exploration examining different patterns of your fingerprints as well as different types of DNA!

Come play a galaxy of games!

THU, July 18- Phases of the Moon (Grades K-5) 6:30-7:30 pm
This is a very tasty way to learn more about the moon! Oreos and Stories will have you in orbit!

FRI, July 19- OUTTA THIS WORLD ‘Budding’ T/ween Artists (Ages 10 & Up) 6:00-7:15 pm
Today is ‘flea market find’ where you will design floral arrangements in unusual containers.

MON, July 22- Universal Space Mission (Grades K-5) 6:30-7:30 pm
Join us for a simulated space mission to the moon and back!

TUE, July 23- OUTTA THIS WORLD Sharpie Tie-Dye (T/weens 10 & Up) 6:30-7:30 pm
Decorate white clothing using unique template ideas.

WED, July 24- OUTTA THIS WORLD Bottle Rockets with Craig Richard (Grades 3-7) 6:30-7:30 pm
Build and test bottle rockets!

THU, July 25- OUTTA THIS WORLD ‘Budding’ T/ween Artists (T/weens Ages 10 & Up) 6:00-7:15 pm
This workshop with the Atkinson Garden Club focuses on ‘kinetic design’ – making a hanging arrangement that moves!

MON, July 29- Painting Planet Earth (Grades K-5) 6:30-7:30 pm
Depict the beauty of our planet with watercolors and construction paper.
