‘Libraries Rock!’ All Events Registration Links

Welcome to the 2018 Summer Reading Program!

This year’s theme for youth is Libraries Rock!

Please come in and register for the Summer Reading Program as a whole STARTING JUNE 1st,  then register for each individual event that you would like to attend.  HOVER AND HIT THE LINKS IN RED.

‘Libraries Rock!’ t/ween registration is open to ATKINSON youth entering grade 6 to age 19 (as of Fall 2018).  The youth program overall registration is for kids entering kindergarten through grade 5.  *Kids entering grade 5 register for the youth program, but may also register & attend any events listed for their age group in the t/ween program.

*EVERY MONDAY ‘Summer  Stitch Rocks! (Grades 5 & Up) 3:00-4:30pm
Learn some knitting or crocheting stitches. We will help you.  Stitch a bunny from a square!

WED, June 20- “LIBRARIES ROCK” Songwriting Workshop (Grades 2-6) 5:15 – 6:15 pm
Learn basics of rhythm, rhyme, meter & melody, but also that tying shoes or eating a gross hot lunch can be the stuff of great music.

WED, June 20 – “LIBRARIES ROCK” Kick-Off with Keith Munslow (Register all ages) 6:30-7:30 pm
Fun, funky music, lightning-fast cartooning, and hilarious stories.

SAT, June 23 – Self-Defense Rocks (Teens ages 13 & up) 10:30 – 11:30 am
Body positioning for good balance, basic blocks and attacks, nonverbal cues for prevention, tips on how to detect potential situations.
Based on the C.O.B.R.A. Self-Defense System & traditional Kung Fu with certified instructor: Chris Fazzio

MON, June 25 – France Rocks (Grades K-5) 6:30 – 7:30 pm
We ‘ROCK’ with France today with our books, food, music, and craft. Come make an Eiffel Tower to eat! French cuisine at its best. Fantastique!

TUE, June 26 – Ukuleles Rock (Grades 5 & up) 6:30 – 7:30 pm
Come away from this hands-on workshop knowing basic chord forms and all you need to know to play some simple 2 to 3 chord ukulele songs!

WED, June 27 – Learn Musically & Rock On (Grades K-5) 6:30 – 7:30 pm
Learn some basic ballet and jazz dance steps, different instruments & get an introduction to the wonderful flute.

THU, July 5- Mario Kart Tournaments Rock! (Grades K-5) 6:30- 7:30 pm
Compete on Mario Kart Wii with your friends!

FRI, July 6- Family Zumba Rocks! (Ages 4-104) 5:00-5:45pm:
Music, dancing, culture, fitness, and fun. Bring the whole family!

MON, July 9- AFRICA ROCKS! (Register K-5) 6:30- 7:30pm
‘ROCK’ Africa today with games, stories, and a fun craft.

TUE, July 10-REAL WORLD STEM ROCKS! (Register All Ages) 6:30- 7:30pm
Watch STEM come to life with a demo of a real video drone. Learn the process of planning & building.

WED, July 11- T/ween Book Talks Rock! (Grades 5+) 6:30-7:30pm
Join us as we talk together about ‘Drums, Girls, and Dangerous Pie’ by Jordan Sonnenblick

THU, July 12- Rockin’ Rocks and Minerals (Grades K-5) 6:30- 7:30pm
Calling current and future rock collectors! Paint, learn, and explore the rocks and minerals of NH!

MON, July 16- Japan Rocks! (Grades K-5) 6:30-7:30pm
Eat pocky sticks, hear a Japanese tale, make a kite, and have fun!

TUE, July 17th- Oodles of Doodles Rock! (Grades 5+) 6:30-7:30pm
Relaxing Zen Doodle with music, gel pens, friends, and more!

WED, July 18th- Taiko Rocks Performance (All Ages) 6:30-7:00pm
This Taiko drumming is more than a performance and more than an instrument, it is an experience.

WED, July 18- Taiko Rocks Workshop (Grades K-12) 7:00-7:30pm
Learn the history of Taiko and some Japanese culture while playing a big loud drum!

THU, July 19- Excrement Rocks! (Grades K-5) 6:30-7:30pm
What’s that smell? We’ll identify samples, learn science behind it, and more!

MON, July 23- Australia Rocks! (Grades K-5) 6:30-7:30pm
Today we ROCK down under in Australia! There’s plenty to do with stories, crafts, and food!

TUE, July 24- STRONG by Zumba ROCKS (Grades 5+) 6:30-7:30pm
Every squat, every lunge, every burpee is driven by the music!

WED, July 25- Turtles ROCK (Register All Ages) (Geared for Ages 3-9) 6:30-7:30pm
A box turtle, a Blanding’s turtle, and a tortoise will all be waiting here to meet you!

THU, July 26- Kid Detectives Rock (Grades K-5) 6:30-7:30pm
Solve the clues, crack the codes, and help solve a mystery in the library! Join us for this challenging, adventurous night!

MON, July 30- Sweet Summer Sounds ROCK (Register All Ages) 6:30-7:45pm
Join us for a celebratory ice cream social for the summer reading participants as well as a bonus sweet summer sounds from the NH Recorder Consort!

WED, August 1- Magic ROCKS Workshop (Grades 5+) 5:15-6:15pm
Learn simple magic tricks from Peter Boie, the magician for nonbelievers!

WED, August 1- Magic ROCKS for the Non-Believer with Peter Boie (All Ages) 6:30-7:30pm
Come see a belief-challenging, imagination inducing, harmonica-appearing, reality-altering, ghost-contacting magic show that will have you gasp in awe!
