Lots of great adult and childrens books for sale.
Most adult books are $2.00 or less and children’s books are under $1.00.
DVDs, VHS videos and music are $2.00 or less.
Audio books will be priced individually.
There will be some “Special/Collector Books” for sale. Each book from the list will be priced individually.

There will be a great selection of home baked goods & Yard Sale items. Come early for the best selection. All proceeds support programs at the Kimball Library.

Accepting Book Donations

Kimball Library accepts book donations year round, but twice a year we urge you to especially clear out what you no longer want and bring them in to us. The Town-wide Yard Sale (May 19) is coming up and we’d like to have a large selection for folks to peruse and purchase. These items take some time to be sorted through which is why we are asking for them now. We accept books, music, and DVDs in good condition. Please be sure books are not moldy or damaged and that music and movies are playable the entire way through. We do not accept any magazines, text books, encyclopedias, or Reader’s Digest condensed books. When we receive your donation, we first sort through to see if we’d like to add any of the items to our collection. If we don’t add the item(s) to our collection, we then decide if it is to be sold or to be transferred to “Got Books.” Please take care to recycle your unwanted items by helping the environment and your local library. Donations can be received during open hours from Monday-Friday (10-8) and Saturday (10-3). If you have large amounts of materials, please call ahead so we can be sure to assist you.

Music and Me (Ages 3-5) – Mondays 11:30am-12:00pm

Ages 3-5, and their caregiver, are welcome to join us for some early music-development activities! Our time will be spent in circle-dancing, call-and-response songs, rhythmic stories, and percussion activites. Our focus will be music, but our activities will also teach socialization and early literacy skills. Come join the fun starting on Monday, May 7th! Registration is required.

*Mondays, May 7th – June 11th. Registration Required.

Turn it On! (Tech Tutorials)

Tech THIS out! If you got a new e-reader or gadget recently that makes you want to hide, then we can help you hold your head up high again. You can have a brief lesson here called “Turn it On!” on your tech toy (Kindle, iPad, iPod, Nook or other device compatible with Overdrive) and learn how to put a free library e-book on it. This is a basic tutorial for newbies. Please register for a Friday morning or Wednesday evening appointment. Available time slots are on the online calendar link right on our website at www.kimballlibrary.com. Got questions regarding what you should bring? Ask for Kathy Watson (tech toy technician) at (603) 362-5234. (These tutorials are for resident card holders in good standing only, please.) One-on-one lessons on our new catalog system (Koha) are also welcomed.

Tween Book Discussion 6/6/12 @ 6:30pm (Grades 5-8)

Liam has always felt a bit like he’s stuck between two worlds. This is primarily because he’s a twelve-year-old kid who looks like he’s about thirty. Sometimes it’s not so bad, like when his new principal mistakes him for a teacher on the first day of school or when he convinces a car dealer to let him take a Porsche out on a test drive. But mostly it’s just frustrating, being a kid trapped in an adult world. And so he decides to flip things around. Liam cons his way onto the first spaceship to take civilians into space, a special flight for a group of kids and an adult chaperone, and he is going as the adult chaperone. It’s not long before Liam, along with his friends, is stuck between two worlds again—only this time he’s 239,000 miles from home.

Frank Cottrell Boyce, author of Millions and Framed, brings us a funny and touching story of the many ways in which grown-upness is truly wasted on grown-ups.

We meet the FIRST Wednesday evening of each month from 6:30-7:30pm to discuss the book selected. Refreshments and thought-provoking conversation will be served. All interested mature middle school students are welcome. (Not young adults, not children — hence, TWEENagers in grades 5-8.) Please ask for a copy of the current book at the front desk.

Teen Book Discussion 6/13/12 @ 6:30pm (Grades 9-12)

Everyone has something, someone, somewhere else that they’d rather be. For four high-school seniors, their goals of perfection are just as different as the paths they take to get there.

Cara’s parents’ unrealistic expectations have already sent her twin brother Conner spiraling toward suicide. For her, perfect means rejecting their ideals to take a chance on a new kind of love. Kendra covets the perfect face and body—no matter what surgeries and drugs she needs to get there. To score his perfect home run—on the field and off—Sean will sacrifice more than he can ever win back. And Andre realizes that to follow his heart and achieve his perfect performance, he’ll be living a life his ancestors would never have understood.

Everyone wants to be perfect, but when perfection loses its meaning, how far will you go? What would you give up to be perfect?

Words with T/weens 5/22/12 @6:30pm (Grades 5-12)

Are you gnarly about words? Do you like to be with other peeps your age to hang and chat with? Competitive, much?

Try us one Tuesday night of each month. The teen librarian plans to play word games with teens. The game of the night will vary depending on the number of tweens and teens who register.

Possibilities: ‘Fast Scrabble’, Bananagrams, Scattergories, Balderdash, Hangman, Upwords, etc. You are welcome to bring word games from home. All games must be able to be completed in roughly one hour.

PS. BRING FRIENDS and register them! They do not have to be Atkinson residents.

$25.00 material fee must be paid when registering. Felicia will have extra inexpensive herbs for sale that evening.

Bird Talk with Mike McDermott (Wild Birds Unlimited) Monday, May 7th @ 6:30 PM

Mike McDermott owner of Wild Birds Unlimited in Plaistow will give a presentation on local birds in your backyard. This time of year the birds are busy building nests and laying eggs. Pick up some tips on how to attrack them to your yard.

Mike will focus on the arrival of hummingbirds which start to arrive in early May.

Refreshments will be served.
